Finding Humor in Adult Work

The other day I tweeted asking for ideas about blogs you all feel would be interesting! I always like hearing what you would like to know more about.  Below Jay expresses his interest in hearing more about humor in adult work.  So lets call this an “Interesting Inquisitions” type of blog series.

IMG_8937I think you NEED a sense of humor to stay in this career path. When dealing with the delicate nature of sex and humanity there are lots of things that can go right…and lots of things that can go wrong. The ability to kind of laugh, take a joke or let things roll off you is important. Therefore you need humor in this industry to stay sane (or some version of sane)  Many speak about getting a “tough skin” being in a business that sells beauty.

Though I like to think (and believe) that it’s not just about beauty here, it’s about brains too. (if you plan to survive that is)

For example just today I and countless other online sex workers received an email about how horrible we are, that we need to repent and are whores. So…there is that…and then there is me laughing. What a way to inspire me for a future clip. -golf clap- LOL

I think humor is very sexy. If you can’t make me laugh long term we probably won’t be talking long. Whether it’s from a humiliating custom/session or just every day comical life-I like to laugh. I try to keep the laughing at others expense to when I’m paid for it…(hehe)

-But I do follow this twitter page, I think it’s called “The Darwin Awards” and it’s full of people doing really stupid things. HAHAHA! Certainly makes me feel better about my level of common sense.

Since many sex workers are alienated and judged extensively (and harshly) by society I think it’s important those who work in adult remain light hear-ted as possible about our career choices. Sex, Fetish, Kink etc is all sought out essentially as a feel good experience and to keep it that way must remain positive as possible.

Not to say that some (or all) of us don’t need a dark room and a different city, state to live in sometimes to get away from society well you have to find the humor in that yourself somehow.

As for what makes me laugh I think that is a broad spectrum. TV show wise I like comedies such as Friends or The Big Bang Theory. My sense of humor ranges form very dry to sadistic. I’m forever changing really. Depending on my mood something may be funny today that is not tomorrow!

Watch out…I’m like a cat…one minute I want you to touch me the other minutes I’m leaving a scar on your hand.

Odd Interactions V.2

Shopping, checking out.

Man standing next to me when line is behind me (I think he thinks lines don’t apply to him) he starts to strike up a conversation about what I’m buying and how someone will enjoy it…I smile and say yes. He continues to stare…then he starts to talk about something else I’m buying. The man has to be about 25 years my senior, albeit a “hot daddy type with salt and pepper in his hair” to some, I know better. LOL. So I take out my keys with my kitty dagger and start to attach my maze to the keychain as he babbles on. Then he stops.

Hint taken? Perhaps so. He got into line.

No need to strike up a conversation while I’m trying to check out with a line behind us. Some “interactions” are past nice and just plain “odd”.

For anyone considering ordering a custom video from Victoria, here’s a detailed review of my recent experience:

1. Communication

Victoria is very professional and easy to do business with. She’s respectful, prompt, and accommodating. You are dealing with a professional content creator, not a girl treating this as a side-hobby.

2. Video Details

My custom video request was 750 words and Victoria nailed it. She exceeded my expectations and, funny enough, started teasing me even before the video began since the download size was 2 GB. I sat with anticipation while it downloaded and the end product was more than worth the wait. Very high quality stuff.

3. Response Time

I’m pretty sure I got lucky, but I have to mention this. The same day that Victoria acknowledged I made my payment to her, was the same day she delivered the video to me. Less than 12 hours turnaround. Very lucky, I know, but you could be too!

4. Intangibles & Personality

I’m going to be very honest. There are a lot of women online who produce similar content to Victoria, but I must say this: Victoria has to be the most sincere, genuine, and caring individual I’ve come across in this business. The questions people ask when they are -always- wasting my time…

1. -goes into pvt show with paying client-comes back out of pvt show-

they are still sitting there then ask “how was that, did you have fun?” 

2. -hanging out LIVE on cam, can clearly see what I’m wearing-

they ask “what are you wearing? can you get up and turn around for me?”

3. -have logged into cam 5 million times, see same screen name(s), they always lurk-

…you’ve never seen me…other then for free…lurking…I don’t owe you the 411. 

It’s pretty bad when you recognize certain screen names and it’s been YEARS and they’ve never contributed to your business.

5. Receives long winded email about a custom video/cam show after you’ve linked them to your blog that explains everything in detail and they ask for something you clearly don’t do…and they clearly think they are special and you will do it -just for them-. 

Now you’ve wasted my time…in more ways then one. Are they still teaching reading in schools? 

6. -Enters chat room, cordial how are you doing what are you up to’s exchanged. Then the “I’m just sitting here admiring your photos” comment comes.

Uh…because I’m here ready for a live show and why are you here if your not here for that? Go call your mom.

Things you should be prepared for when you enter the adult online industry…

You think you have a little secret. Since you are on the internet, maybe using a different name, who is going to know it’s you? That wig from the local chop shop hair store will help, along with those smokey bedroom eyes. Right?

Prepare yourself. Grandma may find out. Daddy’s little girl is going to take on an entire new meaning. And the kid you went to high school with who never spoke 10 words to you in the 4 years you spent in the same building, all of a sudden asks you to hang out-10 years after you’ve left high school. (*raises eyebrow -pukes in nearest trash can-)

Some people are not going to be okay with your new found nudist camp. Myfreecams. Streamate. Camwithher etc. Or that anyone on gods green earth has access to what some people think is the most intimate thing of your entire being. Your naked body. Your willingness to tease, taunt and make a living off erotica. You may lose a few friends, you may gain some others. Keep yourself around open minded people, be what makes you happy. The strong survive regardless of this…but there are other factors.

Are you okay with someone else probably telling your parents/friends/work colleagues what you do online? Because let me tell you. The vindictiveness of other girls in the industry can be highly worse than an over zealous fan. Be careful who you chose to share yourself with, I don’t (only) mean “customers”. I mean those other girls who want to befriend you. There could be multiple reasons for so. Spreading your personal information. “Stealing” (or trying too) your supporters. Getting to know you to in turn try to air your dirty laundry and make you out to be some vagabond. Spreading false lies to in turn gain something for themselves.

Canter around social media sites, a girls chat room etc. How long has she been around? Does she seem to play nicely with other females? Who else has she worked with on cam/in adult? (and what do you know about those people) Cross reference. Research. Does she have frequent mental break downs for the entire world to see? Yikes. Hide your kids, hide your wife! Not everyone you think is a good friend, is indeed a good friend. Use common sense. Mind your own business. I mean that in many ways. Mind your own BUSINESS, so it grows. The more positive you are and careful who you surround yourself with for support and collaboration the better off you will be. Don’t let negative people suck you energy or motivation. Doing so, the more successful you will be. And when you think you’ve found a chocolate chip (friend) and instead it’s a raisin (foe) you can learn that lesson and be more careful. Hint: I had to learn this lesson.

That being said, there are still great women/men in the adult industry and I’ve learned to surround myself with those that are positive, uplifting and willing to make this career-even with all it’s extra things to consider-work out. Once you’ve been on the internet for awhile you kind of learn a 6th sense. I don’t even have to talk to someone to read their vibe-over the internet. I can just tell. Treed carefully when you are starting and work on you and your business. Take care of you and yours. Everything else is irrelevant.
